Ervin Laszlo is a systems scientist, integral theorist, and classical pianist. The Big Question is whether human consciousness survives the death of the body. This book provides robust evidence that the answer is yes. The book is divided into three parts to address this question.Part I explores evidence supporting the "supernatural" phenomena of near-death experience, apparitions of deceased individuals, medium transcommunication, instrument transcommunication, past life recollection, and reincarnation.Part II examines the possible scientific bases of these phenomena, relying heavily on quantum entangle, cosmic holography, and the idea that information comprises the fundamental "substance" of the universe, and that space, time, matter, and energy are secondary and illusionary aspects of reality.Part III offers an explanation of the phenomena explored in Part I: That every one of them are different manifestations of the same reality; i.e., that there is only one consciousness and our separate consciousness are part of an indivisible whole. Moreover, these individual consciousness do not come from our physical brains, as material reductionism insists, but are just manifestations of the cosmic consciousness that are transmitted through our brains. Furthermore, our experiences, thoughts and emotions are indelibly encoded in the akasha record and these can be retrieved and relived by other living brains.I find the basic premise of this book to be quite believable. It touches on the groundbreaking work by Hameroff and Penrose into the quantum nature of consciousness, recent cutting-edge experiments involving quantum entanglement, and a lifetime of research and field work by Dr. Ian Stevenson in collecting evidence for reincarnation. Most of the evidence was historic. A lot was from the 1800s and early 1900s. This was disappointing since there is a great deal of modern ctting edge evidence.A great 101 type book. While the thesis seemed to vary through the book, as to how the Akashic realm and the evidence for reincarnation are related.In the later chapters a very brief scanning of quantum physics and direct interpretation microscopically are brought in, but very briefly.without considering the limits of such interpolation. There are many major books just devoted to these considerations. While I agree that the latest results of quantum physics do have a lot of philosophical implications for the flawed 'religion' of mechanical materialism which has dominated our world and brought with it a great confusion of the purpose of life which in turn is leading us into bad decisions in terms of both technology assessment and destruction of the biosphere. Again this is covered lightly and in passing.Overall I think it is OK and the premise is pointing to a greater truth, just not a book for a well read or advanced consideration of these topics.
There are three parts to this book. The first, and longest, describes various pieces of evidence that human consciousness survives the death of the brain. These include near-death experiences, communications from people who have died to those who are still living here on earth, and past life recollections and reincarnation-like experiences. These are all very interesting, but the most impressive are the second part, which describes cutting edge scientific discoveries that may explain how the survival of consciousness could be possible, and the third part, which relates the science to the occurrences and proposes an explanation. Of course I would like to live as long as I can enjoy a reasonable quality of life. However, reading this book makes me feel more comfortable with what might come later.
Today I completed the Ervin Laszlo Anthony Peake book in the pic below. Oh my god! I was spellbound by all the after death info, and stopped when I got to the science part because this small volume packs incise, scientific proof of the continuance of consciousness after death and my mind was jam packed by then. Dug in this afternoon and Anthony, thank you from the bottom of my heart for this first ever complete understanding of how it all works! I FINALLY get it. I was able to explain it all to my father so I know it's tight in my consciousness and I will never be the same again. You took every paranormal, visionary, out of body experience I've had and put them together like a da Vinci. It's as if at last I know why the Mona Lisa smiles. Paul Eno, Bill Hall
I like this book. It presents ideas that are consistent with the thinking of Near Death Experiences, which is a subject I have spent several years exploring and talking to people who claim to have had them. It also tries to relate them to the concept of the holographic spacetime theory of some modern scientists. I puzzled over the chapter on this, written without reference to quantum mathematics (unfortunately) and consequently had some difficulty in accepting them into the general proposition. Nevertheless I think the book is well worth reading. Other that the holographic chapter I found it an easy read and it encapsulates several interesting concepts that may be new to some readers.
This is a good primer about the topic. Laszlo writes clearly and simply and makes the topic accessible to everybody. There are better books out there. Those who want more detail and evidence might read Irreducible Mind, edited by Edward and Emily Kelly.
I have read a GREAT many books about this general subject...but NONE even come CLOSE to being better that THIS!!! It is VERY well written, succinct, and clear AND truly COVERS the essence of the subject!! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
