I bought this map to use during 3 days spent in central Athens. It was very reliable! Minor but helpful details, such as some little walking paths, were marked on the map. I was able to navigate successfully around little neighborhoods with twisting streets. The tourist landmarks that I needed were clearly shown on the map. The various metro lines, and stops, were also shown on the map. It folded up and was easy to put in my handbag. There was also a little overview map showing the subway lines out to the airport, a small street map of Piraeus, and a map of Greece and the islands. I've used these Streetwise maps before, and the Streetwise Athens did not disappoint.

This was a useful (and durable) tool for walking the streets of Athens. Packed easily into my day pack and it saw a lot of use! The laminate is "heavy duty" and this map folds easily into its' original "shape." If you are planning a trip to Athens, I recommend this map as well as the "Frommer's Day to Day" guide for Athens, Greece. And, if you are thinking of a trip to Athens, wait until the unrest cools a bit and then go take it in. GREAT food and friendly people. Lodging can be a bit pricey, but food is very reasonable (and you will want a lot of it!) and it is a city where most sights are accessible on foot. You'll not regret a visit to Greece.

This map was very confusing to use until we got our barrings in Athens. It is a full map, with half on one side and half on the other. So literally when you flip it, it is a continuation ofor the other side. Maps we have used I the past had main parts of the city zoomed in even though it's on the big map.

Decent map of parts of Athens. I used it on a trip and it served me well.

Don't bother purchasing this map. It is too small to be helpful. I was replacing a 2000 map because I wanted updated information on the Athens Metro. The part on this map that shows the Metro stops is so small I would have needed a magnifying glass to read the stop names. To be compact the map breaks the city into two halves with one half on one side and the other half on the reverse. I like to have a general sense of how neighborhoods fit together. This half and half arrangement limited the usefulness of the map for me. I returned the map. It wouldn't have worked for me at all.

An excellent, high quality map to help you get around Athens. Just fantastic construction. It's nice to know your map won't tear apart or be useless in the rain.

I'd never travel abroad without a Streetwise map. My wife and I used this Streetwise Athens map this summer, and it was terrific! Detailed and up-to-date, it's also plasticized, so even if it gets wet it's still usable. And it's a bazillion percent easier to fold and carry than a paper map. Three cheers for the entire Streetwise lineup!

These maps are amongst my favorites. Helpful for getting around and studying the city prior to my arrival so as to maximize my mobility during the short vacation times that I spend there.

I just read this book for the second time, and Kaplan's subtle insights into national backgrounds of countries and statelets around the South China Sea sink in even more."We" project many erroneous motivations onto nations because we know little about their national backgrounds. Kaplan takes a chapter-by-chapter analysis of the political history of each country to give sometimes completely new outlooks on the past of each of these nations, from past colonizations by Europeans, historical dominance by China, or the influences of overseas Chinese in their trade patterns, going back a thousand years.He also contrasts cultural differences that have mattered today and in the past. He delves into the laid-back culture of the Malays and their almost contemptuous attitude to Time and getting things done, is contrasted with the driven attitudes of overseas Chinese and the Vietnamese, and the resultant dominance through history.He illustrates how the influence of Confucian values of family-over-individual made for clan success and wealth-building in those nations where these values had influence, and how non-Confucian values in the Philippines made the parallel clans hotbeds of corruption.Advocates of western liberalism will be taken aback by his analysis of how Malaysian and Singaporean autocrats created peace, order, and financial success not by spreading democracy, but by limiting it, and walks the reader step by step through the trial-and-error insights gained by Mahathir and "Harry" Lee as they guided the modern states of Malaysia and Singapore to wide citizen acceptance despite a lack of democracy.Kaplan contrasts the present economic and military differences that resulted from past interactions by the region with China. He explains why China today avoids confrontation with Vietnam, laughs at the Philippines, and cultivates/manipulates the connections to Chinese heritage of the overseas Chinese in each of these countries. He goes into endless detail of the impact of the "cow tongue" demarcation line off its southern coast, why China made 'peace' with the Vietnamese over its sea borders with them while going on challenging claims of other nations, and how and why China is spending the next hundred years patiently expanding its control in the Taiwan Straits and out to the "near islands", and building naval power to expand into and beyond the Ryukyus, Korean Sea, Yellow Sea...and on to the Pacific.The only critique I have is it was written in 2014, as economic doubts about continued Chinese growth were arising in the news, prompting Kaplan to suggest several times that Chinese military expansion may not be financially sustainable. This has since proved not to be true.

Robert Kaplan describes the South China Sea as being “as central to Asia as the Mediterranean is to Europe.” He discusses the impact of a powerful China on the countries bordering the Sea. China believes that almost the entire Sea belongs to them, and they have plenty of old maps to support their claim. China is on the rise and it is starting to throw its weight around. China has indicated that it would like the US military to pull-out of Asia and it seems to have aspirations to become a regional hegemon. China's behavior has triggered a regional arms race and Kaplan is predicting that South East Asia will become less stable. Kaplan does not believe that a war between China and the United States is inevitable, it depends on how the US responds. He wants the US to accept a smaller role in the region and suggests that America may have to rethink its Asian strategy.Kaplan does a good job explaining the issues. Firstly, the South China Sea is an important waterway. More than half of the world’s annual merchant fleet tonnage passes through the region. Secondly, it contains a lot of oil and China is desperate for new energy. Chinese oil reserves account for only 1.1% of the world total, while it consumes over 10% of world oil production. China believes the South China Sea contains more oil than any area of the globe except Saudi Arabia. Some Chinese observers have called the South China Sea “the second Persian Gulf.” Thirdly, China is seeking an Asian version of the Monroe Doctrine, and believes in “Asia for the Asians.” Fourthly, the future of the region depends on whether the US is willing to pull-back and allow China to expand its power and influence.Kaplan believes the South China Sea is to China what the Greater Caribbean was to the United States in the 19th and early 20th centuries. He argues that the United States became a great power, geopolitically, by dominating the Caribbean. He claims that the Europeans departed the Caribbean allowing the US to dominate it. The US Navy still relies on 11 very expensive, but increasingly vulnerable aircraft carriers to police the oceans. However, China has been developing capabilities specifically designed to counter America’s power in the Pacific. The Economist reports that for over two decades China has been investing in submarines, air defense systems, ballistic missiles, and advanced cyber capabilities. The aim is to make it too dangerous for America’s carriers to operate close to China. The Economist suggests that the US may find it difficult to win a war in the South China Sea. After all, the US fought China during the Korean War and the result was a draw.The US has been the hegemonic power in Asia since WW2, but it now has a rival. America assumes the right to send its ships close to the Chinese mainland, and China views this as intimidation. Kaplan believes that the US is in relative decline, while China’s military power will continue to grow. He concludes that America will either have to change the way it operates in the South China Sea, or risk war.The US does not have many good options. Many of the states in the region depend on the United States for diplomatic and military support. It will be difficult to run away, as Ian Bremmer has advocated. Kaplan is hopeful that China will become a benign regional hegemon and won’t pose a threat to its neighbors. This is the book that I am looking to learn the know how of hatching brine shrimps. I haven't finished this book yet so i only can tell you what i felt before i purchased this book.Before i got this book I found this book is a bit old ( slightly out-dated or out-dated ) in every espect. The info that they given seems does not saying more about the filtering systems, tank setups, and so on in more details. So this is the most disadvantages of this book. The books does not have much details on the details of the Marine Fishes, reefs, lightings, and so on.This book does generally teaching or telling what is Marine Fish keeping and teaching those very basic things on the aspects of marine fish. They just telling you what is the important espects of taking care of Marine fishes. They are seems good in the Maintenance, foods & feeding sections only. The info's that they given is very good for peoples want to know what to do when he or she want to hatching brime shrimps. They even teach what, when, how to do in general language. Its a very straight forward explainations so it is good for people who does not know much about Marine Fish. If this book is for those people who want to use for referrences in details and i think this book is not be enought resources or info to make people to know about the technical know how about Marine Fishes. I am not saying that this book is not good. I am saying that this book is suitable for people who want to know what to do with hatching brime shrimps??? Feedings and Maintainance's. SO i would like to introduce people to know about this book is Good in these chapter 10 which is Maintenance and Chapter 11 which is Foods and Feeding.I noticed that most of the books do not cover well about the Hatching Brime Shrimps, and the collections of seawater. Teaching what to do with the Seawater that you collected from the Sea.OK I have to stop here, because I felt that this is the only things that i want to say.Before I wrap it this messaage, this is what i want to say.This is a Good Book for those people wanna to know how and what to do with Collections of sea-water from the Sea and the know how of Hatching brime shrimps.Thats all.

A great reference, but not the best book to start out on. The writer is set in his ways and does not talk about all the options, just what he thinks is best. The three pages on filtration only talk about a subgravel filter, with on mention of live sand and rock. However, it is otherwise very though and would be very helpfull. A good book to have, but you should plan on buying others.

This book is great. I have found that in my time of marine fishkeeping that this book has become of great importance to me and my fish. I would recommend this book to anyone, beginner or avid, fishkeeper. If you purchase this book you will surely become an expert at the art of fishkeeping.

I can't finish this. Got 3/4 of the way, but I'm done. What a bunch of hateful characters. If anyone treated me the way Nicole treats Claire, I'd bitch slap her. Way too over-the-top for me. Real people don't behave like this.

I hated this. If I could return it, I would. This should not be the second book. I read what is supposed to be the first book but based on the story all of this has happened prior to the book I just read. I wish I could get my money back.The characters are very mean. They are not likable whatsoever. I have read lots of Susan Mallery and love reading multi-book stores. But this one is a trainwreck.

Simply put, this is a thoroughly delightful story of family, meeting challenges, and falling in love. From start to finish, the reader falls in love with the characters flaws and all and roots for a happily ever after for the main character. Once again, Ms. Gallery does not disappoint.

As long as you aren't too annoyed by the common romance trope of instant overwhelming attraction, this is an enjoyable read, with main characters you can like and respect, and with Susan Mallery's usual sprinkling of witty dialogue. I'm about to read the second book in this series.

Poor Claire torn from her family, namely her twin sister to study and play piano. Blamed by her twin for their mother's death. Told to go away when she goes to help her twin after surgery.

A really enjoyable experience.There were times when this one had me laughing so hard I had tears 😢 in my eyes.I'm going to look for the next book.

How does Susan Mallery do it? At times I was so angry with Nicole and Claire I was ready to throw the book away and within minutes I was in love with them. Such realistic characters WITH a believable storyline it was hard to do anything but read. Can't wait for book 2.

I finished this in one sitting! Great characters, snappy dialogue and a funny realistic happily ever after. Can't wait to start the next in this series.

My Rating - Must ReadLevel - Fairly easy read, moderate lengthSummaryAs the title implies, this is a book about disciplines for men who are trying to live a 'Godly' life. After the introduction Hughes goes into the 17 disciplines he has identified as needed for men. He breaks these into four broad categories -Relationships - which he identifies as the disciplines of purity, marriage, fatherhood, and friendship. He uses the story of David to illustrate the importance of purity. Originally written in 1991 and revised in 2001, there is the noticeable lack of discussion of internet porn. It seems almost funny (naive?) that he would warn about magazines like Playboy, which doesn't even have nudity anymore. The chapters on marriage and fatherhood are about what you'd expect, though I think he does a good job of warning fathers not to be too harsh in punishment; something often quite lacking in the Christian world. He finishes this section with a chapter on friendship. This was a challenging chapter and a topic I think is often overlooked.Soul - mind, devotion, prayer, and worship. Mind, encourages us to watch out mental intake. He points out the statistics of the amount of TV people watch on a daily basis as compared to the relatively small amount spent reading. He isn't opposed to TV, just points out that for the most part, it is there just to kill time, and recommends different things to read instead - Scripture and Christian literature. Devotion, he breaks down into meditation (on the word), confession, and adoration. Prayer and worship are also as you'd expect, worship being specifically about importance of corporate worship.Character - integrity, tongue, work, and perseverance. Being a man of integrity and clean speech are fairly typical, but the work aspect is unique. I found it especially telling that he would put a chapter on the importance of working in the character section of the book, and after reading the chapter and his arguments, one I fully agree with. The chapter on perseverance was also a new idea to me. His general point is that things aren't easy, and it takes time to accomplish things, and often it is hard just to keep going. This chapter is a short, but helpful, call to focus on what God has laid out for you and to continue on the path.Ministry - church, leadership, giving, witness, and ministry. Again, chapters like being involved in church, giving money, and witnessing (evangelism) are typical and as expected. Leadership is another short chapter that bring a different perspective, but something that is important for men especially. We are all called to be leadership in one aspect or another, work, family, the church, etc. He rounds out the section on ministry with a chapter about, well, ministry. By this he means the importance of actually doing something. Be involved, be willing to be uncomfortable, to be challenged, and to fail, if all for the glory of Christ.Finally, there is a short epilogue with a concluding argument for the importance of Godly discipline and the correct response to grace God has given us. The book is then packed with another 50 pages or so of 'resources' including the hilariously dated 'Bible on Audiocassette', which, honestly, I'm surprised made it into the updated version (the word is so old that my spell-checker is telling me I have it spelled incorrectly). There are also Bible reading plans (including M'Cheyne, which I recommend), helpful Proverbs regarding speech, hymns, choruses, and praise Psalms. As a reading nerd, the most interesting resource to me was his reading survey. He asks a number of well known evangelicals questions regarding their favorite books. This in itself is probably worth the price of the book, and I should probably make it it's own post.Last note on the book, the cover clearly states that there is a complete study guide. This is not what you are probably expecting (unless there was a shipping error and I didn't receive some sort of stand alone guide), as there isn't a dedicated 'study guide' section. Instead, at the end of each chapter, are some thoughts and discussion questions.My ThoughtsOverall, I really enjoyed this book. Written very well in general, it especially pastoral in practice and effect. The typical disciplines you see (not a negative, they are always written about because they clearly Biblical and obviously important) written about are handled well, but the strength of this books comes from some of the other chapters that tackles things you don't always see, such as friendship and work.I'd say this is probably the best book on disciplines I've read so far. One major down side is that, obviously, it is mostly geared to men. Some chapters are universal disciplines, but are written about from man's perspective, and some chapters are specifically for men. That being said, if you have a father, a son, a husband, or really just any man, this book is a must read on the disciplines that God expects of you.More at [...]

Our church men's group decided on this book as a study topic this year and as the title suggests, we were all in for a spiritually challenging journey together. I wasn't familiar with the author prior to starting the book and therefore began it in my usual "Berean" way hoping to not come across any misquotes or private interpretations. Thankfully R Kent Hughes' understanding of the Bible's original languages, authorial intent and context and the all important applications were (in my understanding) extremely precise and accurate.The book is arranged into 19 key chapters that cover different aspects of a man's life walk that require focus and discipline if he is to show love for his God and fellow neighbour. I was very encouraged to discover all of the selected life areas were very much contemporary weaknesses in the lives of Christian men the world over and in bad need of attention. From the outset, the author literally pulls no punches as he warns that discipline and character building in these Godly traits would require continual Godly sweat and hard work. Using the imagery of an ancient Greek athlete who is training for their sport, Hughes exhorts the modern day Christian man to strip himself of the baggage that is presently weighing him down (sins) and get to work in his spiritual gym so that all areas of his life grow stronger and bear fruit. I felt that I was one who needed to read this book as I sometimes like to rest between spiritual sets or exercises for too long before moving onto the next one. As a physical fitness trainer, I could relate well to the imagery used as I often would encourage my clients to work hard in the gym sessions and during the week.In addition to covering the disciplines, the author provides some excellent resources as tools to use to assist the necessary life changes.Next to the plain reading and meditation of God's Word (the Bible), I'm hoping that the disciplines gained from reading this excellent book -The Disciplines of a Godly Man, will be a blessing to my God, family, church, friends and the wider community.Really happy to give it a high rating.

WOW! Where do I start with this book? I have a men's group that I attend weekly and we're going through Disciplines of a Godly Man. We just concluded spending 3 weeks on just a single chapter!Be ready to be challenged in your walk with Christ, your witness before others, your relationship with your spouse, your work ethics, the need for open and genuine male friendships, your relationship with your church, and the words that come out of your mouth on a daily basis.No, 'Good-Works' won't make you right with God. Only Christ and what he did on the cross can accomplish that, but once we have entered into that relationship, God EXPECTS us to reflect Christ in all that we do, say, and think, and that those actions come from the INSIDE, reflective of a CHANGED HEART and MIND! This book will challenge, convict, and motivate you to be what we have been called to be in Christ. I highly recommend this book, and HIGHLY RECOMMEND this for the purposes of a men's study/accountability group.

A very comprehensive book into taking a look into the very aspects of living out the gospel! There were plenty references to what the bible speaks on for the various disciplines (i.e. work, worship, etc.) while providing a practical approach for understanding and application. This book was the topic of discussion for a men's fellowship group and each chapter spoke clearly and directly to many of the men each week (one discipline a week). I would recommend this book to anyone who is either new to the faith and requiring more insight into living a disciplined life in the faith or mature Christians seeking rejuvenation and restoration. Praise be to God for this resource!
