Martin Gardiner Bernal (1937 - 2013) was Professor of Government and Near Eastern Studies at Cornell University. Sorry to have bothered with this book, but I have always been intrigued by the part blacks may have played in the upper reaches of Egyptian culture. As I read the book, though, I found far too many errors and sensed that the truth of matters was being stretched in order to prove a point without the right kinds of rational apparatus and foundations in fact.

Perfect condition.

This is a must buy, if you want to know more about black history.

Awesome collection

Even though Martin Bernal is not a specialist in the field, he points out obvious class in the Aryan model. The ancient model, written by the people themselves, with illustrations made by the people themselves, obviously should count for evidence of the nature of these societies. This obviously should not be the first book you read in this subject however. Before you even bother with this book, familiarize yourself with the artifacts, go to the museum, get a cursory knowledge of ancient Egypt, The origins of Hellenistic culture, and who the Phoenicians actually were. If you haven't read Herodotus, Diodoris Sicilus, Homer, The pyramid texts, the people themselves tell you who they were. The Phoenicians were a seafaring people who mixed with everyone, look at the artifacts of Carthage. If you still want to believe these cultures didn't intermingle, it's your opinion. The only reason the other reviews will say this book is mostly opinion is his Judao-Christian interminglings and the fact that the Arysn model is so widely accepted in contemporary society. However, read books from the turn of the 19th century, it was well known who these people were.

Finally work is shifting the racist balance away from hundreds of years of European scholarly bias. Simply holding institutional power and denying others a voice will not be accepted so easily anymore. Bernal's work does contain errors, however, the European bias must come to an end. His work and others like him are a much needed correction for scholars everywhere.

I have a busy house with a husband and three boys. The only peace and quiet I get...time for myself...is when I get in the tub. This book was tub reading. Once I got into it, however, it became "Got to find out what happens!" reading. It starts off slowly, but it gains momentum as you flip a few pages. I'd say this is a really good book to hunker down in a chair and make yourself a coffee, tea, or hot chocolate, and READ!

Won't buy or read any more of his stuff. I bought the Harriet Blue series because I kinda liked the Womens Murder Club books. I won't waste time or money on "to be continued" stories no matter how exciting they might be. And the Harriet Blue stories got more frustrating as they continued. I suppose some people really like the evil characters and fear and peril being the stars of the stories. To me that doesn't make a murder mystery worth reading, and these weren't.

I returned after reading 10 pages. Didn't even make sense the police were shown as either clowns or rogues. I think maybe Patterson wrote the first chapter then turned it over to the other author and it was down hill from there. If there was anything as no stars this is what I would have given this book.

Harriet Blue is on the hunt for her brother's nemesis, Regan. She has gone off the reservation and is pulling out all of the stops to seek justice for her brother, Sam. Harriet has to use all of her skills to find Regan, bring him out of hiding and end his life. She realizes she is putting her career and freedom on the line but does it anyway. She doesn't count on Regan deciding to play games with her. He taunted her up until the end. It was an interesting dynamic these 2 had. Harriet is left to question her true self and, at times, she doesn't like what she sees. Overall a good read and an interesting ending. Am intrigued to see what happens next.

Loved the latest update on the Harriet Blue storyline. Good read and very good storyline. Glad she caught the bad guy. Recommend highly.

The more of his books I read, the more of them I like. I simply can't get enough of them

This is the worst JamesPatterson book I have TRIED to read!

Patterson's stories of Harriet Blue are a different twist from his other lead characters. Based in Australia, the Blue novels are the usual fast and good reads. Amazon's delivery of the book was timely and the packaging was good.

Nice collection of six clock projects at different levels of difficulty, and one gear mechanism that sits and spins doing nothing in particular. The language is clear, the assembly process is very well laid out in exploded drawings and full-sized patterns for each clock are in a separate paper pouch. (If you are buying this book used, be aware that these may be missing and their lack will be a complication--regrettable pun intended--for your clockmaking experience.) Unlike one other poorly titled book, this volume is entirely about making the clock mechanism from wood; do not buy it looking for clock cases and then post unhappy reviews when you find no one is telling you how to make a glorified box.Not present here is technical or design process information, and some of the language the authors use is different from usual practice. However, it is a nice change of pace finding a competent book oriented at those more interested in making a working mechanism than anything else, which is precisely what this book enables.

Very well written and illustrated book. Contains pretty much everything you need to make one of the six wooden geared clocks contained in the book. The material list is very complete and well documented. Of course if you don't like any of the wooden clocks contained in this book it may be of limited value except for the concepts and ideas contained in the book. The only negative may be that the plans are on both sides of the paper so you have to make copies to make the clock, and you can't really cut the plan up to make the copies because they overlap on both sides. So, you have to manage a large sheet of paper to make partial copies. Some of the copies can be on one normal size sheet of paper and if you are limited to 8 1/2 x 11 size paper you will have to tape some pieces of the plan drawing together. Since many of the measurements are critical you must be very careful putting the pieces of the plan together. The clock plans are quite diverse so hopefully you can find a clock you like. Definitely a book I wold recommend for beginner or intermediate clock builders to build or just find out how wooden clocks are made.

Yes, this is what I was looking for and a good book. It has the plans including the full size patterns it promised. Pictures inside are in color and instructions are actually fairly decent. Most of the projects in this book can be built with a scroll saw and a drill press (plus lots of filing and sanding) yet.... There are a couple instances like the gear machine where other tools like a mill and lathe are used which isn't cool, because those are expensive and this book is advertised as a scroll saw book. however, with a little diligence a person could construct all the projects with a scroll saw and hand tools. I've only built one wood gear clock so far (from another set of plans) and will give fair warning as best I can:) to cut an accurate wooden gear takes patience, but can it be done on a scroll saw. I'm giving this book 5 stars because: it has a couple plans in it that I really like and are well designed, It has few to no literary rivals as nobody else who offers wood gear clock plans has published a book for woodworkers, it is priced very competitively compared to other plans you might find online, and I do think it is a fun hobby.

Awesome! Comes w/ copiable plans to cut/paste to plywood. Easy to understand & construct via plans. One of the only books that explain the construction, have copiable plans & complete part lists.

This is a phenomenal book if you are interested in making a wooden clock that works. I’m using them for my steampunk designing of my home. The most important part of this book besides the in-depth instruction to build , is the inclusion of the actual size diagrams needed to cut and make each clock.

Extremely well documented with exploded views, pictures, and step by step instructions. Well thought out. Also has references to the contributors and their websites for even more plans.

I have been making the first clock in this book. The directions are not completely clear as to how to put it together but paired with the pictures I have been figuring it out. However, the parts list is not complete. They are missing several of the spacers and their lengths.

They glued the full sized plans to an inside page.

Oliver Villar, born in Galicia (Spain) in 1987, has been drawing since he was a kid. His interest in art brought him into 3D, which he’s been studying since 2004. He used different commercial 3D software before stumbling onto Blender in 2008. Since then, he uses Blender professionally as a freelance 3D designer and tutor. In 2010 he funded blendtuts.com, a website in which he’s devoted to offer quality Blender training videos to the community. Currently, he’s working as the co-director of Luke’s Escape, a 3D animated short film made with Blender.

Oliver Villar' is a master teacher taking you all the way from an idea and a crudesketch to a short finished animation. Unlike so many other blender books he evendelves into character design philosophy where he blocks out a character in aniterative process instead of just presenting a finished design that doesn't let yousee the process by which the artist created it.The book is generously illustrated and the author includes on his website plentyof videos made for the book that are a great help in learning.

OK, I just spent about 30 good minutes reviewing the table of contents and key chapters in the book. Since I have did video tutorials of creating models in Blender before, while not an expert on 3D modeling, that experience has at least prepared me what to look for in evaluating this book for it's capacity to help me become a better 3D modeler in Blender.There were two things I was concerned about when I bought this book:1) The author is a native of Spain so would I be able to understand his style of English? a) Yes, his English is excellent, concise, and attention holding and not droning or boring.2) To teach all this book teaches in about 325 pages is a whole lot to learn and not a lot of pages to learn it in. It also, because of the very visual nature of what is being taught requires quite a lot of images to illustrate concepts and explanations that no amount of words could do concisely or as accurately so that reduces the amount of teaching verbal explanation quite a bit in 125 pages. a) The book manages to teach everything concisely and well as promised in the 325 pages. The table of contents of index where given extra details when he organized the writing of this book so it could be used as a quick review & reference source by forgetful amateurs such as myself. The basic concepts are taught generically and simply as learning, preparation, and practice before you are taken to actually applying the same concepts and tools to modeling a character. The book is quite detailed in teaching you these things.This book is excellent!

Fantastic - this is a short book - not that I care or measure in the thickness thereof, but about a half inch thick. I add that info because I was expecting some rather lengthy read. I was disappointed at first. But - it gets to the point really quick. I would expect anyone that is starting with vector graphics the first time might have to add in some you tube time to go along with this. But if you already have a general idea on what a vector line is (bezier curve), a plane (not that you fly), and a coordinate system (x, y, z) - then this book will get you into 2D layout to extrusion into solid forms very quickly. From there you go quickly into Boolean operations, etc.In short fashion you will actually build the little guy on the cover of the book. And he's not that hard to make with the way the author explains it. For myself, I had no interest in making characters, I just wanted a quick introduction into the tool set. But if you are wondering about the character art, then you will be happy with this selection.I was happy with this more than I expected. And I have already used it more than once as a reference because the progress of the tool set is laid out in short order in about 1/4 of the total book and reads from simplicity to complexity...

I am finding this an easy to follow step-by-step approach for modelling characters correctly. It also has a great guide to Blender functionality and use in the early sections for version 2.78.

This is the greatest kids book. And as you learn from this book adults can learn a thing or two about common kindness. Can't wait for the next book. We love Captin Jay and the Misfits crew.

Captain Jay is a heartwarming book with a fantastic message. While the book may be short, it’s a great read for younger kids and talks about being inclusive to all different types of people, no matter what they look/act like. The artwork is downright adorable and Tiki the parrot is the true star! I am certainly looking forward to the next book in the series.

I love the message and my kids love the whole thing! The story is entertaining and the pictures are bright and engaging!

My mom has this book for the grandkids and its the favorite!
