I’ve been a Christian for 51 years, a graduate of a Theological Seminary and have taught some type of Bible Study or Sunday School for 40+ years and I wish I had been introduced to this marvelous book 30 years ago when it was first written! I’m thankful I was able to discover it now so I can share it with everyone I know! It is the best resource I’ve found to be an easy to use, straightforward guide to understanding the Scripture. As you do the 15 minute readings each day, there is always a review involving a way to make sure you don’t forget what you’ve learned. He also teaches you the locations of where events took place. You learn to plot them as you learn about them. He gives great illustrations such as comparing a map of the Old Testament to a Map of Texas. Some of the features included are The Arc of Bible History which help you visualize the Bible’s overarching themes. That’s one of my personal favorite things of all! Also included is The Story of the Bible which summarizes Genesis through Revelations in just a few pages and covers the core beliefs of the Christian faith. Though I was a bit skeptical going into this book thinking that's a huge promise to make, by the end of chapter 2, I quickly became a willing reader and student.If you discipline yourself to read and follow the teaching in each chapter, in 30 days you will most certainly unlock the Scriptures and understand the Bible better than you do right now, no matter where in your journey of faith you're currently at. Who can't find 15 minutes a day to greatly increase understanding of the Bible?That holds true for new believers as well as those who have walked with the Lord for years. And yes, even for those who hold a theology degree...or two!In my travels and exposure to a number of churches and organizations, I find applied discipleship to be a challenge for many people. That makes 30 Days to Understanding the Bible to be a desperately needed resource for Christians everywhere. Your faith is your responsibility. This book is laid out well for a thorough review and it will help you to remember what you've read with activities and fill in the blanks at the end of each chapter. The information is very high level but it is a good summary of the information presented. The book goes over the OT and NT and then several doctrines presented in the Bible. The majority of the information presented is fact and is well researched, the one piece I don't agree with is the trinity doctrine. That one is up for debate, but really read your bible, research yourself. Reading your bible is incredibly rewarding.

Each day builds upon anther so that at the end of Thirty Days you will have a greater understanding of the elements of the Bible. For someone who is new to the Bible it gives you a great foundation that you will come to relay on as you continue to study. For those who are knowable of scripture this book will remind you of material you may know while adding to your understanding of the importance of the Structure. A great teaching tool for bible study leaders or for use in small groups.
I was curious about the title - thinking it might be full of tips on how to read the Bible daily. Actually, this book is better. Max has done an excellent job on how to "understand" the Bible - not merely read. The book starts off with helpful background on the History and Geography of the Bible and then goes through the various periods and principal characters. The illustrations are excellent - and help frame the context and key points of every segment of the Bible. Would recommend this to everyone - regardless of level of prior experience and knowledge. This book will be a handy reference to have - and I plan on getting more copies to gift to a few friends.
I wish I had discovered this book earlier in my Christian walk. I appreciated the overview of scripture, seeing where and how things line up. This book is exactly what it claims to be, a means of understanding the Bible. This is not a commentary but acts more as a summary, giving the reader some major guideposts from which to gain an understanding of the Bible in the broad view. Following the biblical outline, the author covers 10 major doctrines of the Church universal. My two favorite sections of the book are the nano summary, which does an even more condensed look at the Bible, covering the story, the teaching and the main message in 3000 words, and the section on mastering the Bible so well that it masters you. This book is NOT a substitute for diving into scripture but rather a tool to clear the way and let the student know what to expect in the unfolding story of scripture. This book can act as a launch point to greater understanding of the Word of God.I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This book is an excellent resource for someone just starting to read the Bible for the first time or for those who have read it but want to learn more about the organization of the Bible. It has an excellent way to help remember the information and the structure of the Bible not just for a short time, but to put it into long-term memory.
