When I was a teen, I tried to read many fantasies. I completed only a select few, because many were too passively written for me. Then, as a young father, I was jealous that my sons had so many great fantasy books in their school library. Now, though, I no longer look on such novels longingly. I am at an age where I don’t care what other people think of my reading choices. Also, since they’re on Kindle, nobody really notices anyway. Excuse my rambling though. On with my review of “The Warrior Queen.”Just as many other reviewers, I’ve been a fan of this series since Book 1 appeared as a Kindle First edition. For this book, I bought the Kindle edition and the Audible edition. Both are wonderful, sensitive stories. It’s been fun watching this author grow.NOTE: Although you can read this as a stand-alone, I strongly advise you to read each of the first three books, priced between 1.99 and 2.99, they’re great bargains for fans of YA Fantasy:Book 1 - "The Hundredth Queen"Book 2 - "The Fire Queen"Book 3 - "The Rogue Queen:POV: Mostly first person, but some chapters are told in first person of a character differing from the main heroine.THE WRITING: If creative writing can be inspirational, that would be the best way to describe this work.BLUSH FACTOR: No worries here. Although this is a Young Adult novel, I can imagine many other folks, such as me, reading and, occasionally, weeping now and then. Often tears of joy.ADVENTURE: Absolutely. Not so much an adventure through the world in which we live, but an adventure into a fantasy land.SOUL: Yes, this story has soul. I enjoy seeing the world through Kalinda’s eyes.EXCERPT‘…I kiss Jala’s downy head and pass her to Indah. The baby wakes, her face scrunching in protest. Her grouses work up to mewling cries. The noise tugs away the final tendrils of my nightmare, save only Deven’s fear when he slipped away. Nothing can clear that from my memory.“Are you not meeting Deven tonight?” Indah asks.My gaze zips out the open balcony at the dusky sky. “What time is it?”“Just past sunset.” Indah’s response follows me to the door. “That’s why I woke you. I thought you’d want to see him.”“I do.” I thank her and dash down the corridor to my chamber. Natesa reclines on my bed and snacks on a mango from Deven’s food tray. “There you are,” she says. “How was your day?”Deven is not here yet, so I sit with her and steal a piece of fruit too. “Well enough. My art pupils are learning how to sketch people. They’re fascinated by the fire-god Enlil. He’s all they want to draw.”“They’re young women infatuated with perfection.”“I was once taken with Anu,” I admit. “But I’d never seen a real man. These girls have seen plenty.”“Anu and Enlil aren’t men—they’re gods. It’s difficult not to be enraptured.” Natesa stretches her toes near a stack of books at the foot of the bed. “These came from the Hiraani Temple for you. Priestess Mita couldn’t find you so I brought them.”I forgot I sent a correspondence to the distant Sisterhood temple asking for their texts about the Void. “Thank you. I’ll start them tonight. Aren’t you supposed to be at your inn?”Natesa swings her legs over the side of the bed. “Yatin and I decided that can wait. I’ll hardly see him if I’m living in the city and he’s here.”She rises to go. I should be pleased she is staying, but the feeling of wrongness from earlier returns stronger.“Natesa, I don’t want you and Yatin to put your life on hold for anyone.”“We aren’t.”“First you delayed your wedding and now…’King, Emily R.. The Warrior Queen (The Hundredth Queen Book 4) (pp. 30-32). Skyscape. Kindle Edition.BOTTOM LINEFive stars out of five.I am writing a book for aspiring reviewers and for product suppliers seeking reviews in an effort to help improve the process and to understand the value of Amazon’s Customer Review process. I hope to incorporate many of the received comments, with attribution to those making the suggestions, into my books.Together, you and I can build a great customer review process that helps everybody. Will you join me? It is people such as you who have helped me improve over the years. I'm still learning, and I have a great deal yet to learn. With your help, I'll improve every day.One request: Be respectful and courteous in your comments and emails to me. I will do likewise with you.Thank you so much for indicating if this review helped you, or for your comment.

I absolutely loved this book! I have been wanting to read it since I found out there was a fourth book and I finished The Rouge Queen so I was so excited when I got the advanced copy of this book. I was not disappointed with this conclusion. I love Kalinda and Deven and Ashwin. I also liked Pons, Indah, Yatin, Netesa, Gemi, Tinley, and Enlil. I loved Kalinda's insistence to stay true to herself and stay on track on getting Deven back from the under realm. I was so happy to see that Ashwin had his own chapters. The story was fast paced and so well done as are all the books in The Hundredth Queen series. Emily is a master at spinning a vivid world with strong characters who make you fall in love with them and root for them even when you don't quite agree with what they are doing. The ending was explosive and perfect! I am happy to see all the characters get their happily ever after.

❝ “Inanna was a cherished young woman, beloved by everyone in her village. Some said she had the loyalty of an elephant and the bravery of a tiger. Men tried to woo her, but Inanna ignored them. She was waiting for one man–the same soul she had loved in all her lifetimes, right from the beginning when Anu plucked the stars from the heavens and named them mortals.” âÅ¾I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own! It’s been an exciting journey following this series from beginning to end. I’m really glad that I was able to support this series from the very beginning, so it made reading this last book a bit bittersweet. I was ready to reach the end of the journey but sad to know it would be the last book in the series. Still, I was excited for this book and it did not let me down ❤As always, I felt like King did a fantastic job of summarizing the previous books without it feeling too overdone. It was perfect for those of us who have been waiting since the last book. It covered major events from all the past books which was really helpful in refreshing my memory before I really dove into The Warrior Queen. This book was one that I was (yes) excited about, but I was also really worried about it too. From the very beginning, I have always stood by the fact that I did not enjoy the romance in this series. It seemed too instalove-like to me and I just never felt that connection to Kalinda and Deven as a couple. And really, I didn’t like Deven as a character too much for a while either because of how he took so long to accept Kalinda’s bhuta side. Knowing that this book was mainly going to be about Deven and Kalinda’s love and her quest to save him made me hesitant about reading this book. I mean, if it’s a book about my least favorite aspect of the story… kinda seems like I wouldn’t like it right? Well, that wasn’t the case.I think the fact that King wove so much of the bits and pieces of lore and mythology from the series into this one book really helped to pull me in and invent more in Kalinda and Deven’s romance. Although I can’t really go into detail without giving spoilers, I will say that I loved seeing those stories from earlier in the series make a comeback and become such important parts of their history in this book. It made it feel tragic and doomed, but in a way that made me really wish for them to succeed. Not to mention, getting to flesh out more of the lore and Kalinda’s past was just so enjoyable ❤❝ “This journey will lead you into great darkness. When you finish, you won’t be as you are now.”“I understand.”“You don’t yet, but you will.” âÅ¾The only thing that I think bothered me with this book was how long it took for Kalinda to make progress in her quest to get Deven back. It felt really slow and repetitive for the first few chapters when Kalinda and Ashwin were still researching and trying to find a solution to getting Deven back alive. It just felt like everyone was at a bit of a standstill for a while as a way to build up tension at the palace. And speaking of the palace: it’s time to talk about Ashwin and Gemi, because they are the other side of this book. It was such a relief to have Ashwin move on from Kalinda in this book (that was another romance I wasn’t too crazy about for the obvious reason being he wasn’t really in love with her so much as the idea of her). I liked that we got to spend more time getting to know him even if I didn’t always agree with his decisions as ruler. I felt he was a little naive and (I’ll just say it) stupid in the beginning when it came to dealing with Lokesh. The Warrior Queen was basically telling two stories in a way: one was Kalinda’s quest to save Deven, and the other was Ashwin and Gemi’s struggle to lead the empire and incorporate bhutas into society. It definitely kept the story interesting once Kalinda’s journey into the void began because there was so much at stake for both sides. The back and forth of it made the book more intense because you had to wait to find out what happened to one pair and it just built up that tension. I really enjoyed it.Finally, I think the ending was just what we needed. I liked the way that things ended with Ashwin and Gemi especially because it didn’t resort to some instalove and it felt… promising. I liked that it was written as them taking things slow and trying to build an actual relationship rather than rushing into things. I also liked how things ended with Kalinda and Deven, especially with the way that the people of the empire turned things around. Plus, I was really happy with Ashwin’s solution to the ranis. Overall, this was a fantastic and thrilling conclusion to the series that really showed me why I’ll be keeping an eye out for King’s next great series. The Warrior Queen was released on August 14th, it’s a book that’s sure to pull you in!

All I can say is whoa! What a way to end a series and just finish up and complete stories!!! I was captivated from start to finish but when I got to around 75% to the end I completely ignored my family! Lol. This was a great read and the heroine- our Warrior Queen... KALI! Was amazing! The love she has for Deven and Deven for her just melted me throughout and the twists and turns with the information about WHO she truly was and how her entire self was powerful than what anyone could’ve ever expected was icing on the cake! You blended just enough, action, strife between characters, love, loyalty, mythical ideals, and betrayal in this book perfectly and I couldn’t have been more satisfied. I read this book and felt like I could actually SEE the characters and the different scenes the way you described everything! Great Job Ms. Emily King! You have a fan for life! Can’t wait for more but I will be honest.. I’m biased towards Kali and her Soul Fire! Awesome read!

Very original book. The pictures are wonderful. It came as expected with an unexpected art inside.

what a joy

Excellent choices of public art. Good quality photos.

This is an amazing work! From the descriptions to the photos to the lovely bound volume. Definitely a worthwhile book to have in your home!

This book is full of very new and very creative art being done by many wonderful artists. It is uplifting to see that art can still surprise, excite and please the eye with delight!

Great book with really great printing quality! Vibrant color also. Glad to be on page 95!

The book is of prominent manufacturing, proficient printing, and appropriate layout. The 'art', however, leaves a lot to be desired. Perhaps I have been...spoiled...in my pursuit of art via innumerable websites. Perhaps I am critical of the mediocrity that is commonly rated as sublime. Perhaps.... But with regard to the contents of this book, I opine not a single installation portrayed is of any artistic value.

I saw this in an upscale retail store, for home furnishings, and wished that I could not pay 1 dollar off of cover-price. I got my wish.

This is a fantastic 75th anniversary book to help celebrate DC Comics. The book contains 100 ready to frame posters, with additional covers of the series mentioned on the back of the posters. The ready to frame posters are perforated and tear right out of the book. They measure about 13 x 11. The covers look like scans of the vintage comics, and some show their age. I guess they decided to show comic covers with creases to depict the age of the comic. I enjoy that better than having them digitally airbrushed. It looks more like a piece of classic art. If you are hesitant in buying the book because you don't know what ready to frame covers there are inside, here is the list of the 100 covers in the order they show up in the book.1.New Fun #1 (1935)2.Detective COmics #11 (1938)3.Action Comics #1 (1938)4.Detective COmics #27 (1939)5.Superman #1 (1939)6. I highly recommend this book.

I bought this book of posters for my fiancé who is very into the DC comic world. He is sitting right here with me and told me to rate it as highly as I can. He absolutely loves it!

what a great addition to my comic book collection...amazingly printed, great selection...all in all, well worth your money.if you enjot the DC Universe it's a must-have!

Ordering a poster book is a risky thing without looking at it. This book was in great shape and all posters were in it. No wrinkles or corners folded, will order from them again.

This book is great! We are going to use some of the pages as framed art in our sons room when he turns 3! What a book! Thanks Amazon for the great deal!

Got it as a gift for my boyfriend, I was afraid it was going to be too childish but he loved it. He couldn't even hold a full conversation after I gave it to him because he was already reading the blurbs on the backs of the pages.

This collection of poster-size covers from DC Comics' storied history leans heavily on the Golden and Silver Ages and breezes through the more recent past. I appreciate the efforts to include overlooked genres (e.g., licensed titles such as Mr. District Attorney, teen titles such as Binky and the romance titles), but was surprised at the dearth of more recent work (the Vertigo Doom Patrol, the 5YL Legion, George Perez's WW, most of the JLA's history) and odd selections for others (like a Superman/Demon cover for Action to represent Byrne's revamp). It also looks like the book purposely avoided iconic covers by Adams, Hughes, etc., to avoid competing with recent books of those artists' work -- a misstep for a book aimed at casual readers interested in seeing the best of the company's history.

This gift is great, I plan on giving this as a gift along with a picture frame so they can switch out which poster they would want to display. The poster are a nice size and printed on nice paper. The only negative comment I would give is that they don't tell you what size the posters are, not a big deal though I just have to measure them.

My wife and I have struggled with our 2nd grader's homework since he started the 1st grade. Once I started following the routines suggested by the book we started to notice an immediate change. We don't fight regularly like we used to, it's rather infrequent now and not nearly to the same scale it once was. However, we have only been working on these systems for almost two months now.Giving our son a specified amount of time (20 minutes) to get his homework addressed has been a learning curve for all of us, but I believe it is a sound solution. He is receptive to working for 20 minutes and does so without argument. I think it's because he knows what he's in for. In the past, homework could last hours and usually ended up with him being grounded or having something taken away. This hasn't happened since we started the 20 minute routine. We've also limited his screen time (iPad/tv/xbox) to 1hr/day. This is divided up into 30 min for consumption and 30 min for creativity. He scoffed at the idea originally and it can still occasionally be the source of ire, but he is compliant for the most part. For the creativity portion of his screen time, he found a drawing program on his iPad that teaches him how to draw transformers and he's been doing it every night and is proud of his drawing. On the weekends and days when he's out of school we expand it to two hours (1hr/1hr)--which I'm not too proud of an am still not sold on.Empowering your child means being willing to let them fail. This takes some willpower and both parents must buy in to this or it fails. My wife and I are still trying to get on the same script with this, but it’s likely going to take some semi-formal documentation noting what we’ve both agreed to do.I look forward to reading the second half of the book. Thank you for this!

A must read for parents and educators. Gives study backed information on the plight of our children these days. If you are looking how to manage media in your home and how to raise a strong child, I totally recommend this book!

A MUST READ BOOK!! I purchased this incredible book and I encourage parents and educators with children of all ages to read this book. The techniques advised to get children and parents on an appropriate age level routine, at home, for screen time, doing homework and routine bedtimes has helped my family become more unified and there is much less stress and much more peace in our home. Educators will also find a wealth of information which can be applied in the classroom and shared with other teachers. It is a must read...for parents and educators! Enjoy!

Great information driven by a large amount of data. I'm an analytical and data driven person. This book is extremely well versed in the data behind what makes kids successful. I originally bought it because of the data about the impacts of 'screen time'. It is very helpful in that regard as well as several other aspects of raising children and providing the boundaries around that.

I absolutely loved this book! I have two small children and I think every parent should read this book to get their kids on a healthy path with limiting screen time, establishing sleep routines, and healthy learning habits. This book was a very easy read and has a wealth of information that seems really relevant in this day in age where we are flooded with technology. I love how it’s backed up by research and case studies & isn’t preachy at all. It carries very sound advice in my opinion! Hands down – 5 stars!

I love this book! As a mother of 5 school aged children, I needed some ideas on essential rules and routines to make the school year go well. The anecdotes and examples are very helpful. The book is well written and easy to read. Every parent needs this book to help them set their children up for success in school and in life.

Excellent! Have already recommended it to friends.

Goes beyond schoolwork and helps create a 'thinking' mind in your children, great advice and help including the new concepts in your home

The first time I read this, as a school assignment, more than 50 years ago, I accepted it as little more than a nice story. Yes, this is a work of fiction but the fiction exists only in terms of the specific dates, names and places. Everything, which occurs, in this book, really happened, commonly, in our country’s 17th through 19th century histories. Unfortunately, most of our public grammar schools, even most of our public high schools, still teach history as little more than a series of unrelated, unconnected dates, places and names, to be committed to memory. No connections are made, to the circumstances, causes or conditions, which surrounded the people and places or generated the actions. It’s not until one gets into undergrad school that one has evan a small chance of understanding history, in the related-circumstances or bigger picture senses. This book is an excellent introduction, for youngsters, to understand how and why some things occurred, not just that they happened in an apparent vacuum. While our Native American tribes had absolutely no comprehension of the concepts of DNA, RNA or heredity, they knew, from the first-hand results of their continuous inbreeding, that they needed diversity, from outside their limited circle, to keep their groups functional and competitive, with the other tribes. Theft/adoption, of women of child-bearing ages and children, from other tribes or societal groups, was their way of exercising their sole ability to cope with those diversity needs. This novel explains these things, at a level compatible with tweens and early teens, without making it seem like they’re receiving a history lesson.

Conrad Richter spins a powerful tale in a short time. His writing style reminds me of Richard Connell ("The Most Dangerous Game") in that he can deliver so much with so few words. This is as much about the collision of vastly different cultures as it is about a boy caught between them. John Butler, the son of a prominent Pennsylvania frontier family was kidnapped as a child by Delaware Indians during a massacre; Indians who were seeing their homeland usurped by white settlers and were making a last stand against them. The Indians brought up the boy as an Indian, giving him the name True Son; his own acceptance of the new way of life began to grow and deepen within him, so that when he was brought back to his own family eleven years later, he had formed distinct opinions of his own against the whites; in his own mind, he was not White, but Indian. He loved and appreciated all things Indian; the forests, the rivers, the animals and birds of the woods; the religion of the Great Spirit. Richter's descriptive passages delve deep into the psyche of a youth torn by opposing forces between two worlds, while one single world is the one he has accepted as his. As his birth family struggles to reclaim him, it drives all of them against each other, in a fierce battle of wills that none of them will truly triumph over when all is said and done.Another excellent novel with a similar, more modern theme regarding a childhood friendship between two boys, one white, one red, until adulthood intervenes,is "Crazy Weather" by Charles McNichols.Another Conrad Richter tale I highly recommend is "Sea of Grass" which is also about the frontier, (New Mexico) but with an entirely different context. "Sea of Grass" and "The Light in the Forest" are both slim volumes, but with a lot in between the pages.

Conrad Richter paints a masterpiece with mere words. This is a most beautiful story. I want to read everything he has written. I'm starting with The Trees and am not disappointed. He creates characters and scenes that live and breathe.

Perhaps somewhat dated in terms of its handling... but much has happened which has changed the way we think since the 60s... This book was well suited for me as a budding adolescent, and it still touches me in my late 60s... I believe that I described the book as 'Provocative' when I was 12 years old.

This is a typical Conrad Richter book, with skillfully-rendered dialects and a plot that rings true, coming from the eastern United States a couple of centuries ago. Without spoiling it, Richter deals with the hardships of repatriated Indian captives. Personally, I liked his "Awakening Land" trilogy more, but this was an authentic read.

I liked this book because it resists the temptation to Idealize the American Indian. The main character was taken as a youth by indians from his family then forced to return years later. He does not get along well with his real family He does not admire or understand his father who as a pale sickly older man lives his life indoors working as an accountant. He does not like living indoors. The only one he bonds with is his much younger brother. He runs away from home back to his indian family but on a raid with them he is horrified when they kill the children of the settlers they attack. He is left between two worlds unable to adapt to civilized life and unable to live with the murderers he finds himself among.

Great book, bought it since it was one of my favorites when I was young. Arrived in excellent condition.

Beautifully written, A Light In the Forest is the tale of a young boy torn between worlds, fiercely prejudiced against each other. True Son, a fifteen year old white boy was taken in by a Native American tribe when he was only four years old, and sense then his hate for the white people has grown stronger and stronger. But now that he is forced to return to his original family, he learns that his " Delaware " people are just as flawed as any culture or civilization. This book is both a coming of age story as well as a tale that blurs the lines between right and wrong. A surprising page turner, I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
